Summary:
On February 10, 2022, the Disciplinary Board of the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ) found Dr. Khalaf guilty in respect of a complaint relating to a patient’s care, contrary to sections 32 and 47 of the Code of Ethics of Physicians (Québec), and section 59.2 of the Québec Professional Code.  The case involved a failure to properly follow up with a patient and not reassessing the programming level of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt valve installed in the patient’s head.   As the sanction for this finding, Dr. Khalaf was struck from the CMQ’s register (i.e. suspended from practising medicine in Quebec) for a period of two months commencing on March 19, 2022, and the Disciplinary Board ordered that a notice of the decision be published in a newspaper circulating in the place of Dr. Khalaf’s professional domicile and for Dr. Khalaf to pay costs of the newspaper publication and the  proceeding. The College was notified of this finding by correspondence received on February 11, 2022.
