On April 5, 2021, the Discipline Committee found that Dr. Ateyah committed the following acts of professional misconduct:
failing to maintain the standard of practice of the profession;
engaging in an act or omission relevant to the practice of medicine that, having regard to all the circumstances, would reasonably be regarded by registrants as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional; and
contravening a term, condition or limitation on the registrant’s certificate of registration.
On the same date, the Discipline Committee ordered that:
the registrant attend before the panel to be reprimanded;
the Registrar suspend the registrant’s certificate of registration for 12 months commencing April 6, 2021 at 12:01 a.m.;
the Registrar place terms, conditions and limitations on the registrant’s certificate of registration; and
the registrant pay the College costs in the amount of $6,000 within 60 days of the date of the order.

failing to maintain the standard of practice of the profession.
On December 23, 2019, the Discipline Committee ordered that:
the registrant attend before the panel to be reprimanded;
the Registrar suspend the registrant’s certificate of registration for 2 months commencing January 6, 2020 at 12:01 a.m.;
the Registrar place terms, conditions and limitations on the registrant’s certificate of registration; and
the registrant pay the College costs in the amount of $20,550 within 60 days of the date of the order.

Wameed Ateyah has been found guilty of the following offences:
1. 16 counts of Sexual Assault, contrary to Section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
2. 1 count of Sexual Exploitation of a young person, contrary to Section 153 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

SENTENCE: November 23, 2023
1. 9 years’ imprisonment (less 8 days).
2. DNA Order
3. An Order to Comply with SOIRA (Sex Offender Information Registration Act) for life.
4. 10 year prohibition on possession of weapons listed in s. 109 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
5. Non-Communication Order under s. 743.21 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
A summary of a decision of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee in which the disposition includes a "caution-in-person" is required by the College by-laws to be posted on the register, along with a note if the decision has been appealed. A “caution-in-person” disposition requires the physician to attend at the College and be verbally cautioned by a panel of the Committee. Note that this requirement only applies to decisions arising out of a complaint dated on or after January 1, 2015, or if there was no complaint, the first appointment of investigators dated on or after January 1, 2015.

Specified Continuing Education and Remediation Program:
A summary of a decision of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee in which the disposition includes a Specified Continuing Education and Remediation Program (“SCERP”) is required by the College By-laws to be posted on the register, along with a note if the decision has been appealed. A SCERP is one of the dispositions that the College’s Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee may make in connection with a matter before it, and this disposition requires the member to complete an education and remediation program specified for the member.
